RE: Grand Design 260RD issues after a year off - Help Please!!!

I may be a little late, Not sure the microwave is plugged in through gfci for some reason, (past, we had a microwave issue) move the door up and down and make sure it is hiiting the litte whatever they are called inside where the door clicks in. Ours was tweaked just a tad. if it works, open the door, take the plastic trim off the top and see where it is screwed in. Our was tweaked a tad so a loosen of the screws or screw a 1/4 ish turn up or down, re-tweak if you will the unit and the door may set into the connection spot right. good luck.

RE: Black tank cracked...twice.

not sure where you are located in relation to an rv store, sales, service etc. they usually have a dump station, a cost included i am sure. the other option is to find a close by rv park that will allow you to dump, of course with associated cost, another option is if you can reach your cleanout at the house, that would work or a truck stop or camp ground with dump station. All of most likely of course with an associated cost. Good Luck

RE: Black tank cracked...twice.

i have never used a pump service, but I agree, the pump service may be the cause, if it isn't the suction it could possibly be teh downward pressure or strees put on the hose connection forcing extra upward force where the drain pipe is connected to the tank. another thing that makes you go HMMM

RE: Pump issues

like said earlier, check the fill/sanitize/antifreez valves as they could be ou to fproper position. I also one time had pump running without moving water, this was after I was hooked up to city water. Turned it to City water then back and all was fine. Never knew what it was, maybe an air pocket. or somthing. good luck

RE: What to look for - construction / materials / options

Sorry, I just read the post again. Construction will vary as well, full profile, mid profile etc. The frames, while they are I bean and Tubular, I believe they are obvioulsy made to hold the home that is nbuilt on it. Just try to make sure you get a good insulated one,and again, tap the rv forums to get actual user info as well as the structural process from the manufacture. If you can and are near a manufacture, take a tour of the factory.

RE: What to look for - construction / materials / options

Well first off, welcome to the forum and there will be just as many opinions as there are units out there. But take them for what they're worth. My suggestion is to go and look at some units, new or used doesn't matter to get some ideas of floor plans and options. Sit on the toilet, lay in the bed, watch tv, and go through all the motions that you would if you were staying in it. That will give you some basics. Look at the GVWR sticker on the unit and make sure you can tow it at it's max determined weight capacity. Narrow it down a little before you get too involved with some extras. Take a pad of paper with you, take lots of notes and write down the do's, dont's, pro's and con's. Consider how you will cmap will be a big part as well, hook up facilities all the time, dry camp, etc. In addition, where you plan on goinng some times has limitations on size. so in short. Go to an RV show, selling lots, etc and get some good info. Then go home and poke around on the internet and look at floor plans, weights, capacities, lenghts etc. Please for the sake of yourself, DON'T LET SOME SALES PERSON SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS!!! ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT SAY, "OH, YOU CAN TOW THAT". Just be careful and if you know someone in your area that is willing to go wiht you and help out a bit, get the help. Reach out to those in and around, they will be happy to help!!!!! Here on this forum and other forums, manufacture specific forums too. These forums will also give you some good info. For us, we have had bumper pulls and now fifth wheel, we love it and enjoy it. On our second Grand Design forst the 303RLS, now 337RLS, but there are little things that I like that kept me wiht this brand/model. GOOD LUCK !!!!! Enjoy!

RE: Need 24-36 5th wheels a year-New or quality used...

you might check into some of the "extendd stay" type as they appear to be a longer stay option with plenty of interior space. or like said, small park models would work too. you just have to figure out when and where you will be moving them too and consider that cost as well.

RE: Tips on how to hook up at an extreme angle?

My hitch is slider, but manual. only really needed it a coupe time in the last eight years. works well. As far as curved pull through sites, mostly have been able to pass the site and back in then park behind.

RE: Extensive Traveling with a 5th Wheel

yeah, yeah and yeah. The steps i don't like due to limitations on getting into the unit in parking areas, especially here at home. I am parked within 3 feet of my house, yep on that side. Overnight at Cracker Barrel etc, sometimes our neighbor is at arms length. Also when boondocking, at times we are a little higher or lower in the front that will impeed the steps. My son in law has them on his trailer and has had the bottom step on the ground. UGH. but to each our own.

RE: Just Joining The RV Life

If you list the type of unit you bought, there will be folks with the same make, and at least similar model that will be a good resource for you when you ask ?'s Go to the manufactures forum and get even more info.

RE: Just Joining The RV Life

TAKE YOUR TIME !!! don't buy a bunch of stuff because someone tells you to, just get things as you need them, it will work out. Of course the essentials like some tools and food. don't overload your unit, tap into information at rv parks etc along the way. Be safe. LIke said before, if you never did this before, get into an rv park or camping area near home where you are familiar with things and get used to how your rig works and how to use everything. Good Luck, Be Safe !!!

RE: Extensive Traveling with a 5th Wheel

ill chime in again. as far as me, maybe an old timer, set in my ways, been there done that, etc. I don't have a problem with the new fangled stuff if the manufactures would just let some of it be an opotion. They could charge a few xtra $$$'s as needed, but should be up to us as the consumer what we want. The water heater for us would be an issue, we turn on in the morning, let it run until hot, turn it off, she gets a shower, does dishes and evening time dishes and i get a shower, never ran out of hot water. Steps, ugh as i wouldn't be able to get tehm down in some parking lots, at home or they may be uneven as heck boon docking in some of the areas we go. as the youngns would say, just saying.

RE: Extensive Traveling with a 5th Wheel

I'm a littel partial to Grand Design, not endorsing them, but my experience. We are on our second. have thought about upgrading again, buuuuutttttt, i am not a fan of the new steps or the on demand water heater. The floor plan we have, 337RLS, is great for us, yeah as in all units, there are things we wish were a littel different. But might I say, just keep using yours for a while, keep looking at units whereever yo may find yourself, keep talking to people, get there use types into conversaiton, compare it wiht your and your plans. Then find the floor plan you like or want, when the moment is right, it will happen. Good Luck, Be Safe!!!

RE: Fifth wheel chucking (practical help needed)

yeah, yes, uh huh, yeppers etc to all the above. We have a similiar issue, only on nasty roads, example 89 norht of Flagstaff Arizona. first off, we are loaded and weight distributed pretty good, overall, and extra 1000 lbs available, proper hitch etc. have right at 2000ish on the truck, towing capacity is 14k. So we do two major things. Keep an eye on the traffic in front of us, when you see them fly off the pavement becasue of dips etc, slow down!!! ON roads we are familiar with we just need to keep it slow for a while in the bad areas, maybe all the way down to 40 or so MPH. Good Luck.

RE: 50 amp to 30 amp dogbone

i did the same thing. we only have one a/c so the need to have the 50 amp all the time isn't necessary. Exception; we have tripped the main breaker at the park post when running a/c and water heater. of course just turn the water heater off. we also have a transfer switch installed and use a Honda EU3000IS generator. Haven't had an issue other than the need to isolate a/c when turning it on. as far as the cord, Yeah, Amazon is a good place to check and sure beats hauling the large 50 amp cord all over the country.

RE: Rank your RV issues

Over 20 years for us with 7 different trailers: bumbper pull X 4 and now on our 3rd fifth wheel, I won't go previous to the tent era. Lots of simple issues from dead batteries, light bulbs, black tank valve, slide issue, tire, awning, etc. big deal was bent springs, and as recently as this week, A/C blew its factory charge crimp. Installed a valve and up and running. Ours, some of becasue of weather and life, But all in all lots of ours have been normal. Knock on wood, if there is real wood anywhere, never had to replace anything major. How many issues are due to lack of maintenance or non use due to storage: HMMMMM

RE: Garmin RV 895 and Fifth Wheels

for years, traveling to and from, here and there, also with a Gramin. Garmin wants me to buy a new one so i can add the app. Anyhow, on a recent trip, hills, tunnels etc. I typed in on the puter highway clearances and grades etc. for the state and route we were on. Example when in Laevingworth Washington, the hwy we planned west towards Whidbey Island. an interactive map shows up with clearances. you just put in the height you want to avoid and it gives you anything less than that. Also grades of hills as well like in Arizona comapring grades and lengths of grades. works well for me. Good Luck, Be Safe ! ! !

RE: Grab handle clamped to RV ladder at roof

I think I understand what you are trying to do, that to get on to the roof a bit more safely. I like useing an extension ladder at home extended above so it's easier to step off on to the roof. The fifth wheel of course is a bit differnet. I just climb up and when my knees are at the roof line or a bit above, I keep hold with both hands and kneel down on to the roof and bascially crawl on to the roof. Trying to evaluate your situation, Thinking of maybe mount the folding door handle on the roof so you could unfold it when you get to that height, but not sure if it would be strong or safe enough. good luck, be safe.

RE: Need advice if safe for my pickup to pull a heavy 5th wheel

I'm chiming in a little late, but : OP, glad you asked the question, but if you had ot ask, then you obviously knew there may be an issue. Never pulled anything like that has me concerned. Gather all the information you can, maybe get a few driving trailer lessons before you hit the road. We don't want to see you along side the road, down a mountain side etc. I have been towing for most of my life, trailers then the last almost 10 years fifth wheel, I still get nervous at times and slow way down to amintain control, I don't care that others are upset and frustrated because i slow them down. Just be smart, be safe so yo ucna live to enjoy!!!
